After leaving Crater Lake NP we spent two days on the road, going through some pretty desolate territory. I'll just post a few items.
Oregon
The southeastern part of Oregon is known as the Oregon Outback and the name really fits. After leaving Crater Lake we drove through the Cascade mountains and into some farm/ranch lands but this changed to pretty dry, desolate territory as we drove east.
Beth had a magazine article that described the road from Winnemucca, NV to Lakeview, OR as the "road to nowhere." I think we drove for about three hours without ever seeing another car or truck in our lane and there were very few vehicles on the other side.
Nevada and Utah
We spent much of the day driving through Nevada and Utah. Fortunately the speed limit is 75. The road was wide, straight and mostly flat.
In Utah we drove along/through the Great Salt Lake and lake bed.
Salt Lake City
This is the main Mormon Temple in downtown SLC. We did a quick drive-by.
SCL is also the capital of the state, so we have another capitol building shot. The city is along the side of a mountain range and this building is up the ridge/hill a little from the main downtown, so you get a nice view of the city (and lake to the west) from this point.
We also connected with a Culver buddy of Bill's, Hank Liese. We had a wonderful evening with Hank, his wife Gail, and their two dogs. Matthew fell in love with Lulu!
Hank and Bill showing they still "have it" after all these years.
