Holbrook, Arizona and Route 66

We extended our stay in Holbrook because of cold weather in our next destination, Flagstaff.  So, we did some local exploring.

Route 66, The "Mother Road" before the interstate highway system, goes through Holbrook.  I had blogged a little about this (with music from Youtube!) in my Winslow post.  So, just a few notes.

We found two walls that showed the full extent of Route 66, from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Matthew did a video with the first map.  If you're interested, look for Holbrook and Route 66 on Youtube.  The second map is on the side of Joe and Aggie's Cafe, a little spot Beth had read about in some tourist information.  They have a bunch of Cars (the movie by Disney) memorabilia.  Apparently when Disney folks were touring around the southwest for inspiration, they ate many meals at Joe and Aggie's.

If you're familiar with Cars you may recognize this.

In the movie, each tent was a road cone.  Check out the period cars.  One car's license plates say "Doc Hudson" (another reference to Cars).

Check out the other restaurants and hotels.  This was such a blast from the past.

I think this wall was in one of the youtube videos I posted earlier.

We tried our best to get our kicks on Rt 66!
